The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his squad can continue to cope with player absences following revealing that attacker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been sidelined since the summer following knee surgery. Hoped to be available at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when stepping up his recovery and could not progress “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a squad that is much more reliable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is an option after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on reinforcements in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a far better place to handle such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if more options was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Indeed, since the current term has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at this level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Speaking about the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, for me, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I watch him struggle being outside.”
