Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
