Both Deceased Students Named in the Providence Campus Attack as Authorities Press On With Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s violent attack at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.

His name was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a search at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

The shooter began shooting inside a classroom in the building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Officers that searched the hotel found two firearms and two ammunition clips when the person of interest was detained, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, one pupil was allowed to go home, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and fellow students and lament the passing of his promising future.”
