Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
