Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
