Israelis have gathered around the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident resulted in more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are considered reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again present a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership delayed official commemorations until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was held in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was aired on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the North African tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to examine the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official knowledgeable about the discussions said that an night meeting of indirect talks commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative explained the earlier meeting ended without concrete outcomes, due to differences over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have still not produce any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are striving to narrow the disparities between the both parties.

Essential Matters in Discussions

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The trade of the hostages still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member survived the incident on the gathering, where hundreds were killed and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - explained: "Nowhere appears as home now and until all the hostages return not a single person will feel safe."

"After we see everyone home returned, we can feel relief once more. Then we can commence heal," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states forty-eight continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "We must do every compromise necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to conclude in exchange for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the site of the gathering, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From there, the sound of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers indicated the severe Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of that day in the western district, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"As the evening falls, the fear appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my smallest child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the updates to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had accepted the bodies of six people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of the city said two more dead people had been delivered. One of them was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, health workers said.

The region's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
